Compaq is also qualifying an NVIDIA Clawhammer chipset. Technical details of this chipset are not clear, but Compaq systems utilizing NVIDIA core logic are expected to appear in January, 2003.

It's interesting that a lot of Intel longs have concluded that Compaq gave up on Alpha after seeing the Itanium specs. Compaq knows that Dell always gets better support from Intel when competing as "just another Intel reseller." Compaq has had plenty of bad experiences selling systems with its own value added engineered Intel systems against Dell's low cost basic systems, so maybe Compaq sold off its Alpha team because of what it saw coming from AMD...

Compaq knows what's coming from Intel and AMD, and they may have concluded they can finally nail Dell once they have the Hammers.

:-)
