"If this is true, which is unknown" Absolutely. I want to emphasis that we know almost nothing about Banias. They have first silicon now, which indicates a Q203 introduction, assuming there are major changes to the micro-architecture as Intel has indicated in the past. But it is all asummptions because Intel hasn't really said anything about it. They also seem to indicate on the one hand that it is derived from the P4, and the other hand it is derived from the PIII. So it is impossible to make any guesses about IPC performance.... " Intel's marketing machine has been promoting megahertz for years, how do they trumpet the merits of the high-IPC Banias?" They should have given it at least some thought. They were going to have this problem, in spades I might add, back when the plan was to have IA-64 on the desktop.
