Cummins Westport receives order for 75 engines for Fort Worth Transportation Authority

For immediate release - April 18, 2002

Vancouver, B.C.—Cummins Westport Inc., a joint venture of Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CUM) and Westport Innovations Inc. (TSE:WPT) announced today that it has received an order for 75 low-emissions natural gas engines in transit buses for Fort Worth Transportation Authority of Fort Worth, Texas.

The order is for 8.3-liter C Gas Plus engines installed in new 30-foot and 35-foot transit buses manufactured by New Flyer. Local distributor Cummins Southern Plains participated in the order.

Approximately half the buses were recently delivered to Fort Worth Transportation Authority, known as the T. The rest are scheduled for delivery this summer. The new buses will be used to retire older diesel fuel buses.

“On completion of the summer delivery, 90% of the 235 buses in our fleet will be natural gas powered,” said Richard Maxwell, the T’s Marketing Director. “This is a strong demonstration of our commitment to reducing air pollution in our community.”

Cummins Inc. is the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial diesel engines above 50 horsepower. Westport Innovations is the leading developer of natural gas fuel systems for diesel engines. Cummins Westport Inc., formed in 2001, develops and markets low-emissions alternative fuel vehicle engines manufactured by Cummins. The C Gas Plus is manufactured for the joint venture at the Cummins engine factory in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
