The one thing that will screw the boomers more than anything else is if they suddenly become risk averse and go from being investors to being savers. Now that sounds like I'm saying they shouldn't save, but I'm not saying that at all. What I'm saying is that they should continue to use their savings to invest. If they do what the Japanese did, start putting it all in the bank for low compound interest they will not only not be able to retire but they will take the economy down with them. So far they are showing some signs of risk aversion, but nothing compared to their parents and grand parents.
