I am not sure what part of my post you are attacking, or if you are reading what is not there. I didn't say anything about the sanctions, or wisdom of having sanctions.

My point is that if Saddam is able to sell oil from the oil market, and we buy from this market, sanctions or not, we are buying from him, since oil is a commodity.

Joe, I am not attacking you at all. My complaint has to do with American companies doing business counter to our foreign policies. As I understand it, Iraq sells its oil to another party....usually Russia. Then American firms buy it from Russia. Apparently, the American firms know they are buying oil from Iraqi. Your comments made it sound like the oil literally goes into a pool and the American firms have no idea from whom they are getting their oil.

I realize that it makes no difference money wise if the Amer. firms buy the Iraqi oil or not. There is enough need for the oil so it will get sold, if not to the US, then to other countries.

However, what bothers me is why don't American firms boycott Iraqi oil to show unity for our objections to Saddam's politics. I understand its an empty gesture economically but that's okay......its the principle that is at stake.
