We don't get much news of the Latin American game here, unfortunately, and no games are ever televised. I wish I could see more of it.
I would love to see Argentina take the Cup this year, preferably by beating France in the final. I was happy to hear that Pablo Aimar made an impressive show against Germany, and I hope Javier Saviola gets in as well. These guys are the future, and a pretty bright future it is.
The event I'm looking forward to is the Champions League final. The semifinals look pretty routine; Barcelona will of course summon up all emotion for the arch-rivals Madrid, but I don't think they have the talent to do the job, especially with Rivaldo injured. Neither does Leverkusen stand much of a chance against Manchester. But if those do go as expected, you have a Real Madrid/Manchester United final, and that could set up a classic match. I've always felt that the top level club matches show better football that the international competitions, and that would be about as top level as it gets. I would of course be backing Real, and hoping to see that artistry that sets in when Zidane, Figo, and Roberto Carlos all hit the groove at the same time.
That means getting up at 2:30 in the morning, in my time zone, but so be it.... |
