Well lsh's response more or less says it all. But Once a well is drilled the derrick can be removed and the pumping can be done sans derrick. Also current drilling does not put up thousands of derricks any longer. They put up a few tightly spaced.

Also I like electricity during a hurricane. Nukes and all conventional power is not a problem. But if a windmill grid survives, it would not be producing energy during the several hours of a storm.

I don't dislike windmills or wind power. I just attempt as a systems engineer to inform the technology retarded some of the common sense reasons why wind power has many limitations and real mega energy generation problems cannot be solved by toy solutions.
