Bottomline, all politicians lie and Bush is lying or spinning the truth nearly every time he speaks. Some
examples:

1) Drilling in ANWAR will not leave footprint

I believe the statement was minimal footprint. That statement would be accurate.

2) His energy plan is balanced

Balanced is in the eye of the beholder. There is a lot of possible things to be balanced between. Its a statement thats hard to really call a lie because it can mean just about anything.

3) He never did anything for Enron

Do you have any evidence that he did do somethign for Enron?

4) There is an axis of evil

You can argue about the word "axis" but there are countries run by evil governments. Bush named a few.

5) We should fear North Korean missiles

I generally think its a good idea to have some level of fear of any weapon that can kill millions of people in 30 minutes.

6) Star Wars was necessary

Star Wars was a good movie. Missile defence is an even better idea.

7) He had a great record in texas on education

Education in Texas improved when he was a governor. Perhaps not as much as he might have claimed but I can't see how any of his statements about this are outright lies.

8) He believes in hydrogen cars "someday" (after he's dead)

Someday is a good idea. Near term massive rollout of hydrogen powered cars doesn't make sense.

9) It is good versus evil (we have evil-doers too, like his buddies at Enron)

The fight against terrorism is a fight of good (not perfect but reasonably good) against evil. Enron was apparently run by greedy liars but that doesn't make our whole country evil, and in any case nothing Enron did compares to the evil commoted by terrorists.

10) We need 1700 new power plants

You do understand that (apparently) mistaken estimates are not lies. See how well the CA government estimated energy needs...

11) The energy crisis was market created

Of course it was an evil plot by Bush and Enron... Maybe the CIA was involved as well. Interesting world you live in.

12) We had a severe energy shortage

For a time we did, or at least it seemed like we did. No lie envovled there.

13) Coal energy is clean

Do you have a link to Bush saying "coal is clean". Also it can be cleaner then a lot of people think even if it is never one of the cleanest energy sources.

14) Saddam is funding terrorists against us (maybe against Israel)

He has funded terrrorism against the US, and plotted to assasinate Bush's dad after he left office.

15) Star Wars would be purely defensive

A true statement if he made it.

16) Kyoto Treaty would hurt our economy

Another very true statement.

17) Anwar drilling is best way to create jobs

Again I ask for a link. I've never heard this statement attributed to Bush. Actually I never heard or read it from anyone before your post.

18) His tax cuts are not for the rich

He didn't say the rich would not get a tax cut. The plan was to cut all tax brackets. Obviously since the rich pay more taxes a fair cut will mean they get a bigger tax cut, but they will still pay a lot more in taxes then those who are not rich. They pay more then the their percentage of the total personal income, and the percetnage of the total tax take that they pay has been goind up for awile.

19) His new government debt is temporary (yeah until we pay it off through higher revenues later)

I'm not sure he said this. If he did it may be true. Its only a lie if it is untrue and if Bush knows it will be untrue. But no one can really know in this case. As long as spending growth is restrained his statement will be true. Unfortunatly he hasn't restrained spending at least not since 9/11 but that doesn't make him a liar.

The rest are either statements he didn't make or are not lies, or are impossible to know if they are lies or are not really important anyway (like " He considered many Vice presidents before deciding on Cheney", no way to know if this is true or not and it doesn't really matter that much)
