Just called my library to see whether they had it, they do, but it's out, got a hold put on. Will look forward to reading it. The librarian who took my request (their web page was down, so I had to use the old fashioned phone -- egad!) also said it was a great book. So that's another positive for it! The book discussion thread you once started--as I recall it was you, wasn't it?--sort of defuncted. Should it be resurrected for this book? Or are the readings of it too spread out? I won't get it for a bit, don't know how long. Just a thought. Thanks for the recommendation -- and pass-through thanks to X, too. I agree that we are abysmally ignorant about the history of the Middle East. I have been fascinated by the reports that some Arabs view Western intervention in the region as basically a continuation of the Crusades. Now that's a long cultural memory!
