I was not a fly on the wall. I have no idea what happened with Bao Dai.

We had had plenty of experience with elections ushering in Communists. Somehow, they always seemed to lead to totalitarian regimes, in Eastern and Central Europe. I am of the opinion that no election is valid if the ascendent party intends to dispense with democracy and introduce a police state, as happened in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, etc. despite "elections".
