The education and training that I have seen is more about promoting an acceptance and advocacy for gay and alternative lifestyles into the mainstream than simply an awareness or tolerance.

Some straight people have issues that lie beneath all of this. If they raise an issue or question the foundations of the agenda they are termed hateful.

I am not suggesting that we return to a different era; however when there was no push for children to be educated and to declare a sexual identity, it was commonly reported by straight men that they remember thinking girls were "yucky" until pre-adolescence started to kick in. If anyone questioned one of the boys in previous generations about marriage, prior to pre-adolescence, the kid was likely to say he planned to marry his best buddy. Adults would chuckle and say wait till puberty sets in, blah blah blah.

Now, as I listen to the reports of gay people it is commonly reported that they knew they were gay at a very young age; even as far back as they can remember. Maybe this is not universal but it sure seems to be a common trend. It raises a concern for me. How in the heck were these people sexualized, to be sure of a sexual identity to such an extent, so early. It raises a concern for me about traditional straight boys who may not have formed a sexual identity yet. If they say they want to marry their playground playmate are they going to be encouraged to accept an identity as homosexuals by the new system? Forming a healthy unpressured sexual identity and orientation is the beginning of serious issues for most parents and children. How kids cope with their developing sexuality is another serious issue. I am uncomfortable with the extend to which the official caretakers within our school system are tasked with the responsibility to diminish, redirect, and/or remove such concerns. Simply by raising this as a concern, I am likely to get the homophobe hate label. Years ago I was an instructor in Teacher Education programs. I saw then that the average grad was ill prepared at a maturational level to be delivering sex ed programs to adolescents. I don't trust the educational system to handle this type of programming without innadvertantly sexualizing kids in the process.

When is it truly hate and when is it a label to beat people up with who care more about healthy adolescent development than whether or not political movement is happening?

"...what would you suggest that might be effective?"

The details of peoples sexual identity and lives are a very intimate and private matter. Attempting to drive adolescents through sexual/political movement is a struggle that is counter productive to their personal need to form a values based identity that they choose and are comfortable with.

Education and training on "Bullying" would suffice.
