Again we see the beauty of telling not quite the whole truth.

...he was only conveying an order from Brigadier S------ (who was subsequently charged, along with the officers responsible for transmitting the command, with issuing a "manifestly illegal" order, contrary to the Israeli Criminal Code, and was found guilty).

Tried! Found guilty! No coddling of terrorists here, eh?

Brigadier Shadmi was in fact found guilty of "a technical error", and received a reprimand and a fine of one piastre.

That makes it look a little different, no?

But Melinki and Dahan, they got 15 and 17 years. That's real justice, no? Something appropriate for officers convicted of murdering 43 civilians. Unfortunately, both of them were actually released within a year. Melinki received a permit to operate a tourist center; Dahan was appointed Officer Responsible for Arab Affairs for the town of Ramleh.

All that this says to me is that the Israelis have balanced their coddling of terrorists with some small awareness of the demands of public relations.
