Tim, the Exxon Valdez spill ten years later is still a problem for the effected bay, its wildlife and the village that is on the site. Because its way outside our mainstream news, you don't here much about it. Nonetheless, they all are still struggling.

1 - The Exxon Valdez spill wasn't directly because of the drilling at Prudhoe Bay. Yes tankers would not have been in the area if it wasn't for the oil that had to be transported from there, but if there was no oil drilling in Alaska the spills would just happen elsewhere. In fact tankers from Alaska don't have to travel as far as tankers from the Middle East so if anything it should reduce the chances of oil spills.

I am not absolutely certain what your point is but the oil was spilled in that bay because of the drilling at Prudhoe Bay. The bay is off the normal routes and would not have been affected otherwise.

2 - Are you kidding. When it happened and for a long time after it happened it was all over the news. You still hear about it from time to time, more then you hear about most issues that are that old.

I know then but not now......no one really cares now. However, because we are close to them physically, the Seattle papers give an update periodically. Fortunately, there are not a lot of people who are affected.........the village is small.....but those who are affected are still struggling economically. Of course, the insurance money from Exxon has helped. And the wildlife is still trying to make a comeback.
