I recall that during the early 80's Reagan S&L years my wife and I would drive past the S&Ls in the Austin, Tx. areas, and there would be scores of "developers" with Reagan/Bush stickers on the bumpers of their cars cooking deals in the board rooms. I told my wife at the time that they were looting the S&Ls, and she thought that I was crazy. I was right on the money. They absolutely loved Reagan's deregulation. It made a lot of millionaires out of people who never put up a dime of their own money, and never did the projects. The taxpayer picked up the tab.
