wbmw,
Yamhill seems to be a well known catch-word these days, but has that stopped Itanium development, yet? I don't see any signs of litigation, either - sorry to disappoint.
Well, at least you recognize the first part of my "thesis" is turning out to be right. That's progress. In about 2 years, we can re-evaluate the other 2 parts (ditching Itanium, subsequent litigation). I think 2 years are enough for the direction to emerge.
Actually, ther cuold be 3 possible outcomes: - Itanium is a success - Itanium is a failure, it is abandoned, Intel is sued by everyone who lost shirt supporting Itanium - Itanium is a failure, but Intel does not help it out of its mesery for fear of litigation. Instead, Intel continues to sink increasingly smaller amount of $$$ into it, leaving it in a small niche, eventually hoping that it will disappear.
I think the 3rd option is the most likely outcome.
