Ask yourself how she climbed to the top of her profession: (1) By being a good little Texas homemaker who baked brownies after church on Sundays; or (2) by being able to out-think, out-cuss, out-maneuver, out-joke, out-drink, out-shaft and out-bullshit the competition? By leaving now, Ms. Hughes can rake in two years' worth of major "consulting" money in case GWB is not re-elected in '04. It's a game all these politicos play, Moe. If you wish to believe that Ms. Hughes is abandoning politics for "family values," then add this fairy tale to your already long list.
