| There are plenty of irrationally angry people voting for Gore, and even more for Nader. The Republican Party does not have a patent on anger, they just have particular complainants. The Chomskyites, the unreconstructed Gramscians, all manner of left- wing populists, revisionist Marxists, and assorted ultra- liberals, with their absurd reductionisms, their animus towards anyone who seems "elite", their hatred and fear of conservative Christians, and their hate- filled calumnies specifically against this Administration, are often powerfully placed in academia, the press, and even the bureaucracy. Some are even in the Congress. Most of the truly raging Right left the Republican Party with Pat Buchanan, or never entered it at all. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party still has a lot of the types I have mentioned. At worst, it is a toss up which Party has gotten the most out of pandering to anger. In my opinion, the Democratic Party, by playing the class warfare angle on a regular basis, is guiltier..... |
