Tim, what you seem to forget is that before there was legalized abortions, there were illegal abortions........and many of them were late term and usually the woman died or was seriously injured. I haven't forgoten about illegal abortions, they just were not directly relevant to the point you quoted. But dealing with that issue, its aweful that the women had to die or get injured, and also aweful that their children had to die. The total number of deaths is greater with legal abortion. And the people who are not religious but are opposed on the grounds abortion kills humans albeit embryo sized humans have no way of proving that the embryo is sentient, conscious and/or human......at least not in the first trimester which is where most states draw the line on abortions. I guess being against abortion is not the only area where we disagre... And yet these same people profess to be strong advocates for individual rights particularly when it comes to carrying guns but then they renege on that concept when a woman wants an abortion because she was raped or her MD told her she could die trying to give birth or her birth control failed her. This all makes a lot of sense. There is a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. There is a natural right to defend yourself, and a general interest in maximizing freedom. There isn't a constitutional or natural right to kill your children. As for rape causeing a pregnancy that will lead to death, see my post from a few minutes back. The combination of the pregnacy resulting from rape and leading to death would mean that an abortion would be a case of self defense. Tim
