To All: I received this in an e-mail from a friend in Florida. It is good to hear from him, particularly since it was a bubbly cheery message.

I've been taking some medication to control high blood pressure. It's been working great but a little while ago the prescription ran out. The doctor's office has refilled the prescription a few time when I've called them but this time they decided that since I hadn't had been subjected to any humiliation for over a year I needed to come in. I naively hoped that the doctor would take my blood pressure and refill the prescription - unfortunately the doctor decided I needed a physical. They sent in an med assistant to draw blood; she was a pretty black woman with a lilting island accent. I soon decided she had learned her blood drawing technique from the same people who trained Papa Doc's security people in Haiti. She plunged this large needle in my left arm - nothing happened so she proceeded to partially withdraw the needle, change the angle of attack and plunge repeatedly in (kind of like Norman Bates with a knife). When this still didn't draw anything other than groans she put one of her fingers on the skin above the sunken needle and pushed down. I started to confess but she didn't give up. She finally decided that my other arm needed attention and by some freak of nature she actually hit a vein and was able to draw off a cup or so of blood. I will say this, that particular operation was so unpleasant
that when the doctor put on the latex glove and had me bend over it seemed by comparison almost pleasant (although I think I did briefly leave the surface of the earth).
