El,
My bet is MC is meticulous with the books given Compaq's history. CPQ is also doing a lot of direct sales and service business now. You can’t stuff the channel with that type of business.

HP I'm not too sure about. Management seems to be more on a merger crusade then paying attention to business. The whole work force seems to be involved on one level or another. They might have a better opportunity to stuff the channel with printers and PCs but I don’t know.

The comments about the merger task force having difficulties with the numbers bothers me. The Inquirer was trumpeting the same story not long ago. They said their source was a leak from the task force. How many times have we seen the Inquirer’s gossip turn into fact? They have been accurate when it comes to Compaq.

Maybe Walter has a point, and maybe he is whistling Dixie. We will have to wait and see. If he has a point………. I don’t want HP stock.
