I just recieved an interesting mailing from a local Hifi/TV dealer in Texas who stated that he would trade in any TV (primarily upper end Mitsubishi) bought at his store for a digital TV within the next five years (depreciated 20 % year). Alternatively, he would offer a discounted decoder (HD to regular) box for people who wanted to keep their TV's.
What is interesting about this is two things; 1) he sees digital TV coming very soon & so doesn't want to anger his regular patrons when they go home with a nice big TV & find out its heading the way of the dinosaur; 2) he recognizes that some customers are starting to wait for the new format & are slowing down his business.

Lastly, this is the first indication from a retailer telling me that "yes", someone has told "him" that digital TV is close, & he is willing to admit it. All other retailers I have talked to say its years away because they need to continue selling the regular TVs and are afraid of the change.
