Tradelite, I respectfully disagree on this issue of debt consolidation with a home equity loan. You are taking unsecured credit card debt and trading it for secured debt. Credit card companies have no leverage. If you don't pay your bills, your credit is ruined, but you still have a roof over your head. Best strategy, in my opinion, is to triage your debts. House is the #1 priority; keep a roof over your family's head. Transportation is #2. Everything else can wait.
