Emeryville maps.yahoo.com is sort of a big freeway intersection with lots of "big box" shopping centers. But, the water side has great views of the City, (S.F.), and it's centrally located to go anywhere in the Bay Area.

Our beaches tend to be pretty foggy until mid-August, but you could get lucky. (Also, the water is a bit colder than it is down south.)

Your best bet is probably the beach at the Marina. maps.yahoo.com It's a good walking/people watching beach, it doesn't get the fog, and if it's cold you can always just go to North Beach for lunch.
