I was just thinking (and that is dangerous)! Here is the mini version of those thoughts.

Were I stuck in a short position in gold that I didn't think I could unwind without driving up the price substantially, my hedge would be gold stocks. As the stocks would appear to go up in value perhaps many fold over the price of gold my position would be covered no matter what happened.

You can start throwing the darts now. (VBG)
