It's a sign of an organization that isn't working well, that you couldn't get the problem fixed without special access. It shouldn't have taken what it took, to get the problem dealt with. My guess is, it's only a matter of time, before the problems recur.

Entirely valid observation--and one that I made myself to the senior Schwab folks I dealt with, even as I agreed to stay and give the firm another try. They agreed as well, and actually claimed to be grateful to me for alerting them to the matter so they could figure out what had broken down and how it could be fixed so as to prevent future problems. As one of them put it in an email to me,

"I will make sure that your story gets out to the Retail world at Schwab. These kinds of situations (although you will remain nameless) are used in our Oversight and Retail monthly briefings and training sessions."

I figured the hoops they went through were enough to merit giving them one more chance.
