I just finished a section on the psychological domination exerted on the Palestinians by the Israelis who settled in the West Bank and Gaza after 1967. Not that anything ever excuses violence and terrorism, of course, but you can understand it better when you see what was done to them. They were stripped of rights and dignity and it had to erupt. To declare support for one side or the other in this requires so much background, I think, and I'm not sure that the average person wants to do the homework.
I feel as if I need to read another book after this one for another POV.

I found myself agreeing with the author of that editorial It has seemed to me from the start to be blatantly manipulative and opportunistic of Sharon, who has always intended to occupy all of Palestine and made no bones about it, to use the "rooting out terrorists" as a perfect chance to move his agenda along.

It made me think of my CW as an adolescent; he had that same clever ability to twist things to look as if he were perfectly justified doing things when you KNEW he wasn't, and that you were being had, but it took a lot of work to untwist the issues and focus on CW's actions alone.

I have bought copies of the book for the boys to read this summer-- (won't they be thrilled?)

I still give it TWO THUMBS UP!
