Wow, sarcasm. That's unusual coming from you. You're not annoyed that I said I thought you are a 'sensible shoes' blonde, are you? I assure you, I meant that in the most complimentary way.

The conservatism that defined itself in reaction against the New Deal - minimal government conservatism - is dead.

I agree that the Old Right is dead. It probably died when the Bricker Amendment failed to pass in 1952. It won very narrowly, btw. The Bricker Amendment would have ensured that the US Constitution remained the law of the land. With its failure, international treaties now supercede the Constitution.

Reaction against the New Deal wasn't limited to conservatives. Many progressives thought FDR's rule by fiat was a dictatorship. The newspaper columnist John Flynn is the foremost example. His books The Roosevelt Myth, As We Go Marching, and A Country Squire in the White House were more critical of FDR than anything conservatives wrote at the time.

But to equate the anti-New Dealers with the present day minimalists is wrong. People who want to lower taxes and make the government less intrusive have a valid point of view. It's too bad the argument between the two major parties has deteriorated to the point that they now argue over who can run big government better....

A neolib is a centrist-rightie who is willing to play ball with the neocons. A paleolib wouldn't think of doing that.
