>Z, for starters all of the WB and Gaza.......they were originally intended to be Palestinian. Now, Israel wants a piece of them as well. If I were Arafat, I would turn it down too. The truth is Israel wants all of the WB for itself, and that's why public opinion in the world is running against Israel.

Israel does NOT want all of the West Bank for itself... it definitely offered most of it in 2000 to the Palestinians. Sharon recently said that Israel will now not discuss evacuating settlements till the end of next year (big mistake, IMO), and is talking about annexing some of it. Israel is going to have to annex some of it- do you realize what the '67 borders were like for Israel?

A significant chunk of what Israel was going to keep in 2000 was an area along the border between the West Bank and Jordan- why? Because a sovereign Palestinian state would likely set its sights (at least under Arafat) on not only Israel proper, but on Jordan as well. It's Jordan's desire that Israel hold onto that border land.

Israel has to remain secure- it can't just blindly give up its security and assume that the Arabs will not attack it- history doesn't support that.
