I am glad you read that closely. I relate it back to X's post earlier...what is there to hate in people who are naturally what they are? All people are a gift to the community provided they break no laws or harm others. And laws ought to apply equally to all.

Theer was a time when I was involved in Native culture. I saw such myth/rituals as the Shaking Tent (Ojibway). I spent time in sweat lodges. I spent long evenings with Elders within the Sacred Circle, breathing in sweet grass, and looking into the fire: listening to a lot of silence interspersed with soft and slow speech.

One of the lessons was on the value of homosexuals to the cultural integrity of the tribe. It appears uncanny now, that the examples I heard 25 years ago from people educated only in the oral tradition...comport so closely with the URL I just posted. They spoke of the homosexual person as a tribal gift--a gift to teach spirituality, tolerance, perspective, and creative thinking outside the box. Such a person was honored, and thus the entire tribe benefitted.

There was much in tribal life which has been best overcome; yet there was much that was wise, as based on the overwhelming threats to survival and the resultant benefits of cooperation and tolerance.
