That is sad indeed about your Aunt Jean, E. I'm willing to wager we've all got an Aunt Jean or two in our lives, so intimidated by the disapproval and morally-tinged opprobrium of their family members and neighbors (who consider their moralizing 'loving' and simply an exercise of free speech) they they lead lonely and guilt-ridden lives.

I think it's time for me to admit something here. As a person who has a religious faith, I've fought long and hard on this thread for a respectfulness toward the faithful. I can see, though, how often the statements of those of us who consider ourselves religious are filled with a judgementalism about others. It saddens me a great deal, and I now understand the points made by so many of you secularists about the negative impact of organized religion.

So who says nobody ever changes her or his mind about anything here, huh?
