Doesn't surprise me. It looks as if the HP management assumed that the deal would sail on through with little or no scrutiny. It didn't happen that way, so...

So, as a result, both HP and Compaq will be out of the desktop market sooner than expected. Now is the time to start examining Who Will Fill The Vacuum. This should stop the earnings erosion at Dell for a little while, but the time is ripe for one or more companies to make an assault on the desktop market. Maybe this is AMD's big opportunity, because AMD's chips, especially the Hammers, are a good differentiator from Dell.
