Well, E. It is a sad commentary. I do not see on what basis atheists would consider a biological "dirty trick" as being the same as a moral failing. Something does not fit. I can't help but feel that certain religious ideas had been inculcated in them by family and society to such a level that they were unwittingly controlled by them in spite of their outword disbelief in religion. It does not sound much better than what the religious might have done aginst her. Thank God, they left out the exorcism, though. I don't mean that to be flippant. It is just that the thought of a person needing to live life as a "freak"--separated from humanity and locked in perpetual loneliness--is too much to let pass. I am sure the acceptance from you and your sister gave her some comfort. It had to be so...
