I tell my kids not to judge people who are nice people but just happen to be different. If Heather has two mommies, or Jacob is raised by his grandparents, or Noah wears his hair in a bun because of his religion, I say to my children, give them a chance. If they are kind then be their friend. I don't tell my kids to wait and think before they speak- sometimes if we think too hard we'll find a reason not to be friends with someone. The people I tell my kids to be wary of, are people who want to foment antagonism toward other kids. The people who go out of there way to exclude people. Those are the people religions really ought to exclude, but unfortunately those are the people religions often reward.
