>Z, I think the argument is a weak one. Israel can't go about annexing land because it needs it to feel safer. It would be like the US annexing Cuba.........because we don't want a Castro so close to us, or annexing BC so there is a land link between mainland US and Alaska.
Not true. Remember, how did Israel get this land? They won it in a war in which they were not the aggressors and in which the Arab states had attacked them from that land.
Z, first, it wasn't the Palestinians who attacked but the Syrians and Egyptians. Secondly, was there ever a time when Israel said it would not give the WB and Gaza back, or that the Palestinians could no longer have their state? After all, it was the WB that was supposed to the Palestinian state from the beginning.
Besides, these annexations which seem so sensible to you are an affront to the Palestinians. How do you think the Israelis would react if Arafat said he doesn't like the idea of a Palestinian state in the WB because it would be landlocked; therefore, to make it work, he wants a strip of land running thru Israel to the sea?
Beggars can't be choosers, Ted. Besides, Arafat's already said many times that he wants all of Israel.
So Arafat is a beggar? Assuming that's the Israelis attitude as well, its no surprise that the peace talks end up going no where.
