German computer chip giant Infineon Technologies is set to ink an alliance with Taiwan's Nanya Technology within the next four weeks.

Infineon hopes to increase its market share to 25 percent, from the current 17 percent.

The companies have been in negotiations for the past few months.

The alliance may cover anything from development cooperation to joint production.

According to recent reports, Infineon and Nanya are planning to invest nearly US$ 10 billion to set up a joint venture to make 300-mm silicon wafers in Taiwan.

The partners could share two production sites with monthly capacity of around 40,000 wafers apiece.

Infineon has been active in Taiwan since 1996 via another joint venture with Mosel Vitelic, which specialises in memory chips.
