DuPont Photomasks Inc.’s third-quarter revenue totaled $83.4 million, down slightly from $86.6 million reported in the previous quarter and 23 percent below the year-ago period’s $108 million.

For the fiscal quarter that ended March 31, DuPont Photomasks also reported net income, including special items, of $4.9 million, or 26 cents per share, compared with $200,000, or 2 cents per share, in the second fiscal quarter and $9 million, or 48 cents per share for the same period a year ago.

Pro forma net income was $200,000, or 1 cent per share. Pro forma results do not include a one-time gain of $10.4 million from the sale of the company’s photoblanks business unit, a write-off of $300,000 for in-process R&D associated with the acquisition of BindKey Technologies, a $5.1 million write-off of equipment and assets held for sale and $2 million in severance charges.

The Round Rock, Texas-based company’s revenues from photomasks supporting 180nm-and-below design rules grew about 25 percent sequentially to 45 percent of total revenue during the quarter. DuPont Photomasks said it expects fourth-quarter revenue to be between $87 million and $92 million, resulting in a loss of between 10 cents and 2 cents per share.

DuPont Photomasks said it is still focused on positioning the company as a leading provider of microimaging products.

"During the quarter, we made further moves to better align our global manufacturing network in support of the current and future needs of our customers," said Peter Kirlin, chairman and CEO of DuPont Photomasks. "By doing so, we have improved our competitive position, enabling us to more effectively serve both leading- and trailing-edge segments of the market across the world."
