SAN DIEGO--Cellular phone chip set supplier Qualcomm Inc. today reported a 5% sequential decline in pro-forma revenues to $659 million in the company's second fiscal quarter, ended March 31, compared to $693 million in the prior three-month period. The company's revenues were 8% lower than $717 million in the same quarter last year.

The world's largest fabless semiconductor supplier posted a net income of $1.9 million vs. an income of $43.9 million in the fiscal quarter last year. Qualcomm had earlier said its revenues were reduced primarily because of reduced royalties and unit shipments of the company's Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chips as well as lower sales from its Globalstar unit.

Based on the current business outlook, Qualcomm said it expects revenues in the fiscal third quarter, ending in June, to increase sequentially by 3-to-6% from the second fiscal quarter. The company is estimating a pro-forma income of $0.21-to-$0.23 per share compared to the $0.20-per-share pro-forma earnings in the just-ended quarter.
