ROUND ROCK, Tex. -- DuPont Photomasks Inc. today reported a 3.7% sequential drop in revenues to $83.4 million in the company's fiscal third quarter, ended March 31, compared to $86.6 million in the prior three-month period. The lithography photomask maker's revenues were 23% below $108.0 million in the same quarter last year.

DuPont Photomasks posted a net income of $4.9 million, including gains from the sale of a business and charges, compared to net income of $367,000 in the fiscal second quarter, which ended Dec. 31. In the fiscal third quarter last year, the company's net income was $9.0 million.

The company has recently made a couple major moves to reposition itself in emerging technologies for photomasks, including an acquisition of a design software startup, called BindKey Technologies Inc. The acquired company's software tools check the layout of new ICs for violations of manufacturing design rules in order to speed development of mask sets for volume production (see April 2 story).
