Taiwan's SiS turns into black in Q1
TAIPEI, April 25 (Reuters) - Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS)

sg.biz.yahoo.com

<2363.TW>, Taiwan's second-largest chipset maker, said on Thursday it made a net profit of T$26 million in the first quarter of 2002, a swing from a T$207 million loss a year ago.

The first-quarter profits were also a turnaround from the T$60 million loss made in the fourth quarter of last year.

The company's recovery comes as the semiconductor sector makes a gradual comback from last year's estimated 30 percent plunge in chip sales.

The company, whose chipsets connect a computer's microprocessor brain to the rest of the system, released the earnings results after the close of trade. On Thursday, SiS shares finished up 0.97 percent at T$52, while the main TAIEX

<.TWII> index fell 1.55 percent.
