none of the events you mention resulted in failure of the currency to be honored at some level -- individual banks and S&Ls going belly-up?? sure -- doesn't mean you need bullion. I hate the fiat system as much as anyone, but the idea that we might find ourselves in a situation where it takes wheelbarrows of cash to buy loaves of bread and you have to resort to bullion to live is impossible for all practical purposes -- potential for a crisis is high -- but the kind you are talking about is very, very LOW. You have a Much higher chance of getting killed in an accident in the next ten years.
