Intel to restart construction of $2 bln plant

NEW YORK, April 25 (Reuters) - Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - news), the world's largest microchip maker, said on Thursday it would restart construction of a $2 billion chipmaking plant in Ireland, which was halted last year amid the economic downturn.

The plant would employ about 1,000 workers.

The plant, to be completed in 2004, would incorporate the latest in chipmaking technologies, including the use of dinner-plate sized silicon wafers that can be diced up into a greater number of chips than older, smaller wafers.
