hi qwik,
let me ask you a question. imo, msft was succesfull because they were able to package separate software into one integrated operating system.
today, intel is focusing their attention on sunw. but my point is this. sunw has accomplished a integrated hardware platform that consists of servers, storage, software. they are offerring a complete solution to customers.
creating an enterprise platform is much different than a pc platform because of its complexity. i think sunw is making their customers life much easier by integrating servers, storage and software (i.e., solaris, j2ee, staroffice 6, java, storage) into one integrated platform from a 1k to muti million dollar system. is there another company that can make such a claim?
some might consider me naive, but i think staroffice 6 will offer a huge economic advantage from msft products. sunw and texas instruments can compete on chip design and speed. and most importantly, sunw is packaging this into one platform for the customer.
where is my thinking flawed? alot of folks have written sunw off.
