"Either you're with Laz and me on this one or you're agin us."

I am getting a little leary of the tracks this discussion is taking. The term "Death with dignity" is now being attached too losely, IMO, the term "assisted suicide." I understand death. I have some inklings about what it means to die with dignity as opposed to dieing embroiled in some sort of dishonor. It is common for people to question the point of continuing on in life's struggles. It has generally been considered a virtue to encourage one another until the end. Inherent in all of us is to continue in the struggle until it is out of our hands due to inevitableness of death. An act of suicide is equivalent to giving up in the struggle.

I do not consider dieing a horrible fate unless it is possible to take with you some sinister humiliation attached to the departing soul. My hope is for a positive out come of a life that has been worth living. This latter course being a dignified death.

I don't wish for an end that is wrought with pain and suffering on anyone. The involvement of Hospice was designed to support a dieing person with the struggle toward the innevitable. I see this as a dignified approach by society to assist a person in facing the innevitable with dignity. I see suicide, assisted or not, as something else.
