Trey, your current propensity to be so prematurely judgemental does not do justice to your usually thoughtful view points.

i dont buy it. and your naivete' about how a semi company reduces costs is
stunning.

they do it through die shrinks and increases in wafer size or reductions in line
geometry. i seem to recall that with the equipment they have, not what will be
delivered when it wont make a difference, they have done all the shrinks and
line reductions they can.

I don't recall making statements that indicate cost reductions coming about from smaller wafer sizes or larger line processes. Micron indicated in their last conf. call that they do expect further bit growth this quarter (meaning they could squeeze some more from their 200 mm wafer line with 0.3 micron processes).

If what you contend is true, then the current reports indicating MU's cost for 16 Mb at $4 are not possible. They have already shrunk per unit costs significantly from the levels reported last quarter. Hence, it might be useful for you to re-examine the bases for your reasoning that they have done all the shrinks and line reductions.
