That's an interesting question, especially when you hear the Saudi ambassador respond to it.
He says, "they may have been Saudi but they were all trained in Afghanistan".
He has no excuse -- either way, it's pouring gasoline on a fire. Worse, it's not consistent with American ideals, is it? Do you defend that kind of spook activity?
Perhaps, but depicting to Afghani children the glorious ways of death in battle, and pouring billions into that conflict, is not unlike the Saudi books, created by the Saudis we are told, which are also said to be filled with revenge and hate, altho' that is denied, again, by the Saudi ambassador on tv last night.
Where do you draw the line? Is anything fair game, including teaching children how to die in battle?
Btw, I've been trying to get hold of one of these books in the original for an actual translation, but have been stonewalled so far.
After all, maybe the stories in WSJ are wrong, and they are just happy fairy tales designed for a healthy generation, as part of a sincere AID effort by the ever-helpful United States government. |
