I am less qualified than the marketing people to answer these questions, but FWIW, the Itanium 2 system had double the memory - 32GB, as opposed to 16GB. I don't think that current Xeon systems can equip more than 16GB, so one advantage to the 64-bit Itanium 2 system is that you can.
