but if they decide that only the "oil card" will get them what they want (a Palestinian State) ... then they will do it, because they will have Europe and the U.S. at their knees in short order ... actually, I do not know why they will not do it ... they will be heroes in the Arab and Moslem world ... and take some pressure off their own government from their own citizens ...

Using the oil card would be cutting of their nose to spite their face; the oil market is in glut, and Russia has passed them as the world's largest supplier. Russia isn't in OPEC, and would be glad to increase its market share.

Saudi Arabia doesn't want a Palestinian State next to Israel; they want a Palestinian State instead of Israel. If they had wanted a deal to happen they would have pressured Arafat to take a deal; they did just the opposite, funding Hamas all the time. Hamas' aim is the destruction of Israel, as they tell anyone who asks.

All the Arab regimes derive huge benefit from the conflict, as it diverts attention from reforms at home. It's just diverted a little too much attention lately, so they want to look like they're doing something against Israel, which is dicey because they know they can't actually go to war. So they are reduced to bluff and slogans and diplomatic pressure.
