Speak for yourself. Lots of us guessed that the recovery would be slow and fitful, with lots of sideways movement before anything big happened in the economy. And even more of us were smart enough to see that the recovery in technology spending would be even slower. The fact that most tech executives and tech investors couldn't get their heads out of the sand and see the reality is not an excuse. Granted, Fiorina was probably no worse than Chambers, McNeally, Gates, Barrett and many others, but at least the others were smart enough to hold off on major purchases and realignments until the outlook was more clear.

Personally I see no reason for a major recovery in computer spending anytime this year, and maybe not next. When it moves up, I suspect storage solutions will lead the way, rather than PCs. Simple fact is that there's nothing out there right now that really demands all the extra cycles from a new PC. I'm still running many 300-400MHz boxes (both as PCs and servers) and certainly won't recommend spending money to upgrade them until there is at least something on the horizon that will demand the extra cycles. Right now, there just isn't anything there.
