'crats think free is synonymous with fair. The only expedient that achieves a free market is to get out of the way and allow the participants to slug it out freely. It's called "free for all". The 'crats that created the Act couldn't allow that because it sounds so Darwinian. They say that too many little guys would get hurt and big companies would turn into giant monopolies if the big companies were allowed to do what they want freely.

They fatally confuse "equal rights" with "equality." The inexplicable equation of "freedom" with unpromised - yet doggedly crusaded-for "level playing fields" - seems to be the root of most interventionist efforts. However well intended, fewer policy approaches so thoroughly invite and facilitate the darker corners of the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Gedanken experiment: perhaps a more fundamental cause for, and at least a contributory factor toward, such pervasive attitudes is found epistemologically; minority activists have long recognized that cultural values and, in particular, linguistic conventions play a both powerful and insidious role in the formation of personal and community attitudes.

Taking that approach...I give you the following definition (Mirriam-Webster) for the word greed:

acquisitive or selfish desire beyond reason

Disturbing. I won't insult the intelligence of readers/participants here to ask the obvious rhetoricals pertaining to the above definition, but that seems like a good starting point for these discussions.
