Dan,

Neither system is here yeat, but McKinley will be here before Sledgehammer, and at that time, it will have higher bandwidth than any x86 system out there.

If Sledgehammer gets any kind of backing from server OEMs, it will be time for Intel to scramble in the server segment.

In the desktop segment, Intel may be fine, if the clock speeds reach 3 GHz and dual DDR chipsets become available. AMD may have an edge, but it should not be a disaster for Intel, since AMD chose to shoot itself in the foot with single DDR channel Clawhammer.

One thing that would be nice if the socket of SledgeHammer was just a superset of Clawhammer. Meaning, a Clawhammer could be plugged into a sledgehammer socket. This way, motherboards (even single CPU) could just include SledgeHammer socket, so that AMD would have an oportunity to recover quickly from the mistake of releasing Clawhammer, instead of SledgeHammer for desktop.
